Tableau and Qlikview have emerged as leading data visualization tools in the last few years. I compared both companies earnings of the last four years from NASDAQ. Qlikview is still number one in revenue but Tableau is gaining a lot of terrain. Jobs in Tableau are higher in demand than Qlikview. The salary for both tools is almost the same. Although conventional wisdom suggests a fresh BI developer to learn the hottest tool in the market, in the long run he should diversify his portfolio (ex: Tableau, Qlikview, SAP HANA, SSRS…) to stay competitive in the job market.
A snapshot at Dice.com at 2:03 PM today, is showing 30 positions requiring Tableau in Dallas vs 9 positions requiring Qlikview.
